Services were Saturday, March 16 at the Herman Legion Hall for Mary A. Brodersen, 95 who died March 13, 1991 at Perkins Pavillion in Hastings, Nebraska. Rev. Larry Orvis officiated. Burial was in the Herman Cemetery.

Mary A. Brodersen was born April 21, 1895 in a log cabin southwest of Herman to William C. and Hattie Wilson Cameron. She attended Spiker Grade School and graduated from Herman High School.

She attended Wayne State College to earn her teaching certificate. She then returned home and taught school at Brodersen, Spiker and Bisbee schools.

She married Frank Brodersen in Blair June 3, 1920. They lived on the family farm west of Herman until his death in 1946.

At that time, she moved into Herman and lived with her two sisters, Ruth Jackson and Sadie Brodersen.

She attended Dana College and renewed her teaching certificate. She then taught grade school in Herman, New England, Bisbee and Kennard schools, teaching the children of some of her former students at Bisbee.

She taught until she was 73 years old, retiring from Kennard School in 1968.

She lived in Herman until after her sisters died and it became difficult for her to live alone. She then moved to Hastings, living with her son and daughter-in-law until moving to Good Samaritan Village.

She was a member of the Herman Methodist church, the United Methodist Women, the Herman Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, the Herman Legion Auxiliary and attended Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her daughters, Ruth Westover and Catherine Sheeke; two brothers, Mack and Whit Cameron; and two sisters, Ruth Jacobson and Sadie Brodersen.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Bonnie Brodersen of Hastings; sons-in-law, Bernard Sheeke of Fresno, California and Herman Westover, Long Beach, California; 11 grandchildren, Frank, Randy and Tami Brodersen, John Tim, Mary, Bill and Kevin Sheeke and Margaret Sheeke Mercell and Steven and Stanley Westover; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews and many friends.

Memorials may go to the Herman Federated Churches.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
