Services Held On Saturday For Ruth Flynn

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, at First Methodist Church in Blair for one of Washington County’s first “Gold Star” Mothers, Ruth (Mrs. R. P.) Flynn, 98, who died February 16, 1983.

Dr. Gordon Patterson conducted the services. Burial was in Blair Cemetery.

Hester Ruth Flynn was born in Nelson, Nebraska, November 2, 1884, to Frederick and Zulia Isabelle Eaks Harris. She married Richard P. Flynn on April 7, 1908.

She, her husband and their family came to the Blair Community in January, 1931, where they established a livestock and dairy operation, now known as Flynn Field Farm. She was a homemaker.

She had been a resident of Good Shepherd Home for the past five years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, in July, 1969; three brothers; and two sons, Robert Kelly Flynn, who was killed in action during World War II, and Phillip Teniel, who died in infancy.

She is survived by seven children, Richard Flynn, Fremont; Ruth (Mrs. R. J.) Lippincott, Blair; Margaret (Mrs. R.B.) Phillips, Bastrop, Texas; Isabel (Mrs. Elias) Shapnek, Scotia, New York; Thomas Flynn, Adrian Flynn and Eugene Flynn, all of Blair. One brother, Emil Harris, Hastings, Nebraska; 28 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends also survive her.

Bette Kirk provided the organ music. Vocal music was provided by Janet Anderson.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Adrian Flynn, Leslie Flynn, Monte Flynn, John Flynn, Kelly Flynn, Dan Flynn, Michael Flynn, Robert Flynn, Patrick Flynn, James Lippincott, Tom Phillips, Chris Philips and Roger Phillips.

Memorials are being sent to First Methodist Church and Good Shepherd Home.

Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
