MRS. A. P. COMPTON BURIED SUNDAY

Following an illness of five weeks’ duration, Mrs. A. P. Compton passed away suddenly at the Methodist hospital in Omaha last Friday morning, December 8. She had been a patient at the hospital for two weeks, receiving medical treatment for a throat affliction; her death was the result of a heart ailment which had troubled her for some time.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Clifton of Peoria, Illinois, Anna H. Clifton was born on January 14, 1872, in La Salle County, Illinois, one of a family of seven children. She was united in marriage to Perch Compton of Blair on February 1, 1893, the ceremony taking place in this city; the couple immediately established a home here. They had one adopted son, Claude, who died in 1914 at the age of eleven years.

Mrs. Compton was a member of the Methodist church for over a quarter of a century. She was prominent in the activities of Welcome Rebekah lodge, No. 27, having filled all chairs of the organization at various times, and she was a member of the Women’s Relief corps; she had also taken a part in Royal Neighbors of America activities.

Surviving are the husband; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Dasher of Bakersfield, California; two brothers, L. T of Omaha and F. M. of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

Services were held from the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon, December 11, with Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen officiating, and a short ceremony was conducted by the Rebekahs. Burial was made in the Blair cemetery.

Mrs. A. P. Compton Dies In Hospital

Blair Woman, 67, Active In Lodge Work, Is Buried Here Sunday

Mrs. Anna Compton, 67, wife of A. P. “Perch” Compton of this city, died Friday morning at Methodist hospital in Omaha, where she had been confined two weeks. She had been critically ill the past five weeks.

The body was returned to Blair by the Campbell mortuary, and funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Methodist church. The Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen officiated, with members of the Rebekah lodge also holding a ritual, and interment was in Blair cemetery. Six nephews served as pallbearers: Paul and William Compton of Blair, Ray Schroder of Walthill, Harold Schroder of Decatur, Ernest Clifton of Oakland and Lester Clifton of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Anna H. Clifton, daughter of Joseph and Sarah H. Clifton, of Peoria, Illinois, was born in LaSalle county, Illinois, January 14, 1872. She later came to Blair, and on February 1, 1893, was married here to Mr. Compton.

The couple had no children of their own, but adopted an infant son, Claude Eugene, who was born August 8, 1903. The child died December 22, 1914, and was buried in Blair cemetery that Christmas Day.

Surviving Mrs. Compton, besides her husband, are two brothers, Frank M. Clifton of Omulgee, Oklahoma, and L. Taylor Clifton of Omaha; also one sister, Mrs. Pearl Dasher of Bakersfield, California. There are a number of nieces and nephew. Four brothers and two sisters preceded Mrs. Compton in death.

For many years Mrs. Compton had been a member of the Methodist church. She was an active member also of the Women’s Relief Corps, Welcome Rebekah lodge No. 27 and the Past noble Grand club.

The Compton residence is at 71 west Nebraska street.
