JOHN REID DIES SUDDENLY

John M. Reid, a resident of this county since 1888, passed away at his home in this city on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 1:10 p.m. following a stroke of paralysis earlier in the day.

His health had been failing for the past five years as the result of a stroke, and on this account he gave up his farm work and moved to town with the intention of taking life a little easier.

Deceased was born at Inverkeithny, Banffshire Co., Scotland May 10, 1864 where he grew to manhood. In 1888 he came to Omaha where he lived for six months, and then came to Blair and since that date he has made Washington county his home.

For a long term of years he made Blair his place of residence and started the first greenhouse here. He proved himself to be a successful florist, but tiring of the business and on account of his health, he sold to W. J. Rodgers, the present owner.

Later he engaged in farming and purchased the old Cruickshank farm at DeSoto which had been homesteaded and owned by Scotchmen continuously since its entry when the county was first settled. Mr. Reid was the third and last Scotchman to own this land.

On May 31, 1893 he was married to Miss Ada V. Donnelly, and to them one son was born, Raymond D. Reid of Philadelphia. Other surviving relatives besides the bereaved wife are three brothers, James Reid of Blair, Charles and William Reid of Aberdeen, Scotland, and one sister, Mrs Walter Anderson also of Aberdeen.

The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o’clock from the M. E. church, Rev. Pardun officiating. Interment will be made in the Blair Cemetery.
