JENS PETER QUIST

More than 40 years a well known resident of Washington county, Jens Peter Quist died at his home here last Friday evening, December 14, after a brief critical illness, although for several years he had suffered from the infirmities of old age. He was 85 years old.

Funeral services for Mr. Quist were held Monday afternoon at the First Lutheran church with the pastor, Rev. James N. Lund, officiating. Burial was made in the Blair cemetery beside the body of his wife who died more than five years ago as, enroute home from church, she had stopped on a neighbor’s porch to rest.

Mr. Quist was born in Sweden April 21, 1849. On March 20, 1879 he was married to Bengta Mamsson, and to the union eight children were born, seven of whom still survive. They are: Mrs. Hannah Richter, Blair; Miss Anna Quist, Blair; Hjalmer Quist, Blair; Mrs. R. L. Garske, Omaha; Mrs. A. C. Soske, Provso, South Dakota; Alfred Quist, Blair; and Ed Quist, Herman. Another of the children is deceased.

Following his emigration to America, Mr. Quist came to Washington county in 1892, and had been a resident here since that time, for many years being a prominent farmer.
