REV. RASMUSSEN

The Rev. A. Rasmussen was born on the island of Laaland, Denmark on the 20th day of May, 1858. The years of his childhood and youth were spent at home where he served his apprenticeship in his father’s smithy. At the age of 17 he emigrated to America and made his home in Bureau County, Ill. From there he went to Augsburg college and theological seminary at Minneapolis to prepare himself for the Christian ministry.

On the 19th day of December, 1882 he was ordained to the Lutheran ministry, and on the following day was married. He and his wife left Minneapolis to take up the work in their first charge among the Danish people of Howard county, Neb. During the many years of his ministry Rev. Rasmussen has served Danish Lutheran congregations in Hastings, Neb.; Council Bluffs, Iowa; St. John’s church, Burt County, Neb.; Immanuel’s church, Racine, Wis.; First Lutheran church of Blair; the Lutheran churches at Coulter and Latimer, Iowa; and at McNabb and Dwight, Ill.; his last charge was at Lindsay and Genoa, Neb.

In 1916 he retired from the active ministry and moved to his present home south of Blair. During these years of retirement he has continued his ministry by writing for several Lutheran church periodicals.

Rev. Rasmussen is survived by his wife and six children: Mrs. Julius Olsen, Belmont, Iowa; Victor Rasmussen, Blair; Emmanuel Rasmussen of Lindsay, Neb.; and Christine, Esther and Naomi also of Blair; 16 grandchildren and two step brothers, Peter Christensen and Louis Christensen of Sheffield, Ill.; and one step sister, Mrs. Frank Hemen of Seattle, Wash.

Death came last Sunday, Easter day, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from First Lutheran church, Dr. N. C. Carlsen, president of the Synod, officiating. Interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
