#1 April 7, 1938 - The Enterprise

MRS. A. RASMUSSEN DIED MONDAY

Mrs. Amelia Rasmussen, who for years has lived on the Kennard road, midway between Blair and Kennard, was taken to the Court View hospital last Saturday in a very serious condition. She passed away Monday. Mrs. Rasmussen was past 82 years of age. Her husband passed on four years ago.

Deceased was born in Denmark and came to America in 1873. She was married to Rev. A. Rasmussen on December 20, 1881 at Minneapolis, and they left immediately for Rev. Rasmussen’s first charge near Dannebrog, Nebraska.

They retired in 1916, and moved to the farm south of Blair which they had purchased and where they spent the remainder of their life.

Six children survive. They are Mrs. Julia Oleson of Belmont, Iowa; Emmanuel of Lindsay, Nebraska and Victor, Christine, Esther and Naomi of Blair.

Funeral services are to be held this Thursday afternoon from the First Lutheran church with Rev. James Lund officiating, and interment is to be made in the Blair cemetery.

WIDOW LUTHERAN PASTOR IS DEAD

SERVICES THIS AFTERNOON FOR MRS. A. RASMUSSEN, STROKE VICTIM

Mrs. Sophia Amelia Rasmussen, 83, widow of the late Rev. A. Rasmussen, pioneer Danish Lutheran minister, died Monday at Court View hospital, three days after suffering a stroke. Her home was four miles southwest of Blair on highway 30.

Born March 6, 1856, at Maribo, Isle of Molland, Denmark, she came to America when 17 years old, living at Sheffield, Illinois, and Minneapolis. She was married to the Rev. Mr. Rasmussen December 20, 1881, the day after his ordination.

During his 35 years as a minister, they lived in Howard county, Nebraska; Hastings, Nebraska; Council Bluffs, Iowa; Argo, Nebraska; Racine, Wisconsin; Blair; Colter, Iowa; McNabb, Illinois; Lindsay and Genoa, in Nebraska. When he retired in 1916, they moved to Blair. He died April 1, 1934, and was buried April 4, just four years to the day before his wife's death.

Surviving Mrs. Rasmussen are two sons, Victor of Blair and Emmanuel of Lindsay, and four daughters, Mrs. Julius Olsen of Belmont, Iowa, and Christine, Esther and Naomi of Blair. There are two sisters and three brothers in Denmark and America.

Funeral services are being held at 2 p.m. today at First Lutheran church, burial to follow in Blair cemetery
