J.W. BRUNTON, 83, DIED AT HERMAN HOME, MAY 17

COUPLE CELEBRATED GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY IN 1938

J.W. Brunton, 83, died on Monday morning, May 17, at the farm southwest of Herman which had been his home for more than fifty years.

Funeral services were held at Herman on Wednesday, May 19, with Rev. T.J. Reese of Jefferson, Iowa, officiating. Special music was furnished by Clare Johnson, Fred Roberson, Mrs. Floyd Loftis, and Mrs. E. C. Johnson. Pallbearers were Leonard Loftis, Floyd Loftis, Charles Nelson, John X. Hansen, Otto Christofferson and Ben Wachter.

Born at Jacksonville, Ohio in 1859, Mr. Brunton united with the Four Mile Christian Church near Jacksonville as a young man. He came to Blair in 1881, where he joined the Christian Church; he was married here to Miss Viola Souder on December 20, 1888. The couple moved to the farm a mile southwest of Herman where they had made their home since; they celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary there in 1938.

Seven children all of whom are still living, were born to the couple. They are Mrs. Merle Bring of Lyons; Mrs. Edith McMahon of Lyons; Mrs Lois Sobolka of Herman; Miss Sylvia Brunton of Waverly; Miss Mildren Brunton of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; and Stanley Brunton of Herman. The widow and ten grandchildren also survive.
