RITES FOR NIELS JESPERSEN HELD HERE TUESDAY

Farmer In County More Than 50 Years. Died After Week’s Illness

Niels A. Jespersen, well known and respected farmer of the county for more than 50 years, passed away at his home in Blair early Sunday morning following an illness of but a week’s duration.

Mr. Jespersen was born at Handstrup in Fyen, Denmark December 13th, 1868 and came to America when a youth of 21 years. He came immediately to Washington County in the Hill Creek community where he farmed until 1913. After that he lived south of Herman for 29 years, moving to his home on West Nebraska Street two years ago.

The deceased was married November 3, 1894 at Blair to Miss Lorraine Jensen of the Hill Creek vicinity, and to that union five children were born, all of whom survive him. Mrs. Jespersen also survives.

The children are J. A. (Al) Jespersen of Herman; Mrs. Carl Bratt of East Omaha; C. A. Jespersen of Omaha; Mrs. Edwin Hirsch of Goliad, Texas; and Elmer E. Jespersen of Omaha.

Chris Jespersen of Rockland, California; Theodore Jespersen of Seattle, Washington and Mrs. Christine Jorgensen of Portland, Oregon are brothers and sisters in this country who survive. In Denmark another brother, Rasmus Jespersen, survives.

In addition to the above there are seven grandchildren.

Mr. Jespersen was baptized in the Lutheran faith while a youth in Denmark. He is a member of the Danish Lutheran church of the Hill Creek neighborhood.

Funeral services were held last Tuesday afternoon at the First Lutheran church in Blair with Rev. Harold Jorgensen officiating. Services were in charge of the Bendorf funeral home.

Interment was made at the Herman cemetery.
