HERMAN RICHTER, WELL-TO-DO FARMER, MAKES FATAL MISTAKE

Herman Richter, a well-known Washington county farmer living about ten miles north of Arlington, died Wednesday afternoon from the effects of taking a dose of strychnine by mistake. Dr. Davies was called, but arrived a few minutes after the old gentleman had expired.

Mr. Richter had not been able to sleep much of late and had procured some medicine that would produce slumber, and had placed it in a drawer with other bottles, among them being one containing strychnine. On Wednesday, wishing to take a dose of medicine, he reached into the drawer and took out the strychnine by mistake and swallowed a dose before he realized his mistake with the result above stated.

The funeral will be held from the home at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) conducted by Rev. Soll of the Telbasta church where the interment will take place.

The deceased was born August 1, 1837 and was in his 69th year. He spent his early life in Germany and in 1871 was married to Miss Reka Gorer. Shortly after their marriage they came to this country where they have lived and prospered until they were separated in 1901 by the death of Mrs. Richter. Two sons, William and Herman, and four daughters, Miss Lillie, who is at home, Mrs. E. Peppmiller, Mrs. E. Schafersman and Mrs. Henry Weitkamp, and three grandchildren mourn his death.
