Thursday, 22 Aug., 1895 - The Pilot - Jacob Rupp

A sixteen year old boy named Jacob Rupp was killed by the cars Friday night in Fremont. The fellow lived in Blair with his parents and if reports are true most have been of a wild reckless character. He, with a fellow named Brown, beat their way to Oakland on the train. A few days previous to the accident they walked across the country and caught the F E and M V and were beating their way back to Blair. The boys were in the Fremont yards waiting for a freight to pull out when a switch engine hitched to some cars came along and the Rupp lad made a jump for the iron rod between the cars. He must have missed his hold as he was seen to fall by his companion and when the train had passed he was picked up in a badly mangled condition. Both legs and one arm had been run over and a wheel had evidently run over the abdomen. His father was immediately telegraphed of the accident and went over to Fremont and cared for the remains which were brought to Blair and interred in the cemetery here Sunday morning, Rev. Eggleston officiating at the services.
