SILAS A. LEWIS, 79 DIES IN HOSPITAL…RITES FOR EARLY RESIDENT HELD HERE WEDNESDAY MORNING.

Silas A. Lewis, early resident of Blair and once operator of a dray line here, died Monday, August 15th, in an Omaha hospital, where he had been undergoing medical treatment. He was 79 years old at the time of his death, which resulted from a sudden hemorrhage of the brain.

Mr. Lewis was born on May 23, 1853 in Jackson County, Illinois, and grew to manhood there. At the age of 25, shortly after his marriage, he came with his family to Nebraska, locating in Blair. He had lived here continuously since that time. Mrs. Lewis died November 8, 1916, and since that time Mr. Lewis had lived with his daughters, spending a greater part of his time with Mrs. Floyd Striklett.

Services for Mr. Lewis were held Wednesday morning with Rev. A.F. Newell, pastor of the Congregational church officiating. Interment was made in the local cemetery. Surviving the pioneer are four daughters and one son, all of whom were present for the funeral services. They are Mrs. Bertha Kelly and Mrs. Ed Brown, both of Tekamah; Mrs. W.H. Miller and Mrs. Floyd Stricklett, both of Blair, and Johnny Lewis of Fremont.
