# 1 - from The Pilot, September 7, 1903

John Romans who suffered a stroke of paralysis last week, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chadwick at 4:30 Sunday morning at the age of seventy-five years. He came to Nebraska in 1869 since which time he lived in Washington and Burt counties. Six children, four boys and two girls, all of whom live in this state, mourn his death. The funeral will be held today at 1:30.

# 2 - Blair Courier, September 10, 1903

John Romans, a pioneer of this county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas Chadwick, Sunday morning of paralysis. Although ailing for some time, he was only seriously ill about two weeks. Mr. Romans was born in LaGrange, New York, October 4, 1828, and was married to Miss Charlotte Newton at Buffalo, N.Y. in 1848. He came to this county thirty-four years ago and has made his home in this and Burt county since that time. His wife died about five years ago and of his immediate family there survives him four sons and two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Chadwick and Charles and Robert Romans, of Blair; Walter Romans of Craig, Neb.; Bert Romans, of Arizona, Neb.; and Mrs. A.T. Conkling, of Grand Island, Neb. The funeral services were held from the residence of his daughter on Monday afternoon, Rev. J.L. Vallow of the Methodist church preaching the discourse. Interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

Died on last Sunday morning at 4:30 o’clock of paralysis, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thos. Chadwick, John Romans; aged almost 75 years. He was born in New York state and was married Nov. 16, 1848 in Buffalo to Charlotte Adelaide Newton. They removed to Michigan where they lived until 1869 when they came west to Nebraska, and have ever since been residents of Burt and Washington counties. Eight children were born to them, six of whom are living, as follows: N.D. Romans lives on a farm near Craig; B.H. Romans farms in Arizona Tp (township); Charlie and Robert Romans, both of Blair; Mrs. A.T. Conklin of Grand Island and Mrs. Thos. Chadwick with whom he has made his home for the past five years since the death of his wife. They were all present at the funeral which occurred at the Chadwick home Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, Rev. Vallow officiating. Other relatives present from Tekamah were W.B. Newton and wife; Mrs. J.F. Ellis and Mrs. Gammel; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Creely, Arizona; Frank Romans, Cedar Bluffs; Mrs. John Cameron and Hiram and Josie Cameron, all of Herman.
