Dorothy L. Kelley, 78

Dorothy L. Kelley, 78, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Following her wishes, graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 29, at the Blair Cemetery.

Dorothy Louise Maxwell was born April 15, 1934, in Blair to Dick and Sarah Maxwell.

On December 31, 1949, she married James Kelley.

She worked as a secretary for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and also volunteered her time teaching Sunday school for St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.

Her most challenging but rewarding job was raising her six children. She was an immaculate housekeeper, wonderful cook and great teacher of manners.

She was known for her love of beautiful things. She loved nothing more than beautiful flowers and a clean home, often sneaking in a fresh coat of paint, some new wallpaper or a new chair when she didn’t think anyone was looking.

Mrs. Kelley was a wonderful woman, proud mother and grandmother, loving sister and caring friend. She will be dearly missed but can now rest peacefully in the hands of God.

She is survived by her children and their spouses and her grandchildren: Kathy (Jim) Hunter and daughter Lori of Littleton, Colo., Mike (Susie) Kelley and children Maggie, Sarah, Erin, Jackie and Emily of Niobrara, Pat Kelley of Niobrara, Tim Kelley and sons Lucas and Jesse of Blair,Terry (Lisa) Kelley and children Christina, Jacob, Chase and Makayla of Springfield, S.D., Peggy (Curt) Cassner and children Bruce, Kelley, Abby and Aaron of Naples, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Shyanne, Thomas and Jacob; siblings and their spouses, Kenneth Maxwell of Lincoln, Betty (Ray) Lewis of Fort Calhoun, Joe (Diane) Maxwell of Omaha, Lona (Kenny) Baxter of Kimberling City, Mo., and Vicki (Ron) Novak of Blair.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Kelley; and siblings, Sally Francischini and Juanita Maxwell.
