The funeral of Mrs. M.H. Reed who passed away last Thursday was held at the M.E. church last Saturday with Rev. Stoner officiating. Elvira Marshall was born at Bristol, Tumbull Co., Ohio, June 4th, 1845, and was married to M.H. Reed May 25th, 1842. She came here in 1864 with her parents, Benjamin and Elizabeth Marshall, well known people who lived for many years on the Marshall homestead south of town and was a teacher for twenty years, twelve years in Washington county schools, five of them in Kennard and one in Blair schools. Many of our people received a good share of their education from Mrs. Reed, who was among the best teachers. She had, only a few days before being taken sick, returned (from a) family reunion of the four sisters at Dexter, Ia., where they enjoyed a splendid visit from December 8 to 12. She united with the Presbyterian church at the age of 20 and reunited with the Baptist church at St. Cloud, Florida. Both Mr. and Mrs. Reed still had membership in the Girard church in Ohio. She will be greatly missed here in the church, Sunday School and Aid Society. She leaves three sisters, Mrs. Axil Crane of Dexter, Ia., Mrs. Helen Nonnemaker of Hinkley, Minn., Mrs. Lois French of Kearney, Neb., and her husband, who is one of the few veterans of the Civil war.
